Which hand do you use to throw a ball? If it is your left, then you are left-handed, along with 13 percent of the world's population. Left-handers have to live in reverse from most people. Many of the things in our daily lives are made to be used with the right hand, such as subway turnstiles, computer mice, cameras, and scissors. However, on August 13, lefties can raise their left hands in pride because it is Left-Handers' Day, the one day when right is wrong.

Whether you are left-handed or not, visit the Left-Hander's Day website and learn how to participate in this unique holiday. The site offers posters that can be printed and hung up to support left-handedness. The one thing it cannot do is explain what causes left-handedness. Even though no one really knows how this trait comes about, researchers believe that it is genetic since it seems to run in families.

Each side of the body is connected to the opposite side of the brain. Right-handers favor the left side of the brain, the part which is used for writing, science, math, and logic. Lefties favor the right side of the brain, which controls creativity, imagination, emotions, and spatial awareness. No wonder left-handedness is more common in artists, architects, and athletes.
