Ocean Sunfish Numbers Increase Sharply With Sunny Weather


 [生 活] 天氣放晴，曼波魚數量大增



Starting from January this year, temperatures have either dropped sharply or risen sharply in very short spurts. The temperature fell to roughly 10 degrees Celsius all of a sudden during Chinese New Year, and there were several days of overcast, rainy weather in Northern Taiwan. However, in recent days the weather has been great for several consecutive days in the Hualien region, so fishermen have been able to catch large volumes of ocean sunfish on their fishing trips, many of which range from 200 to 300 kg in size. Not only did this cause large crowds of curious onlookers to gather, it made these fishermen extremely glad!


從今年1月開始，不是氣溫驟降，就是一下子氣溫又飆高。 農曆過年期間，氣溫也一下子降到10度左右，且北部還連續好幾天陰雨綿綿。 不過，近日以來花蓮地區連續好幾天天氣轉好，漁民出海也捕獲大量的曼波魚。且很多體型都在200到300公斤之間。 不但引起大批好奇的民眾圍觀外，也讓這些漁民樂開懷！

John：是啊！每次出去一趟，船都會耗油，但捕到的魚又少的可憐，這樣下去該怎麼辦….


Susan: Hubby, don't be like this. We'll still get by if we cut costs a bit. Don't worry so much first.


Susan：老公，你別這樣嘛，我們省一點還是可以過日子，先不要擔心這麼多。


John: How can I not worry when being unable to catch fish means having no income?


John：捕不到魚，就沒有收入。叫我怎能不心煩呢！


Susan: Relax! Don't elders always say that “the heavens look out for good people”?


Susan：放心吧！老人家都說「天公疼好人」的，不是嗎！



 


in short spurts     一陣陣短暫地(活動)

spurt (n.) 激烈突然的一陣活動，in spurts 就是指一陣陣(活動)的意思。

It rained in short spurts yesterday.

(昨天雨下得一陣一陣的，每次都下不久。)

 

look out for      留意/留心

look out 是日常對話裡常聽到的用法，是「小心」的意思。如：Look out! The car is coming at you. (小心！車子向你衝過去了。)

They told us to look out for the new faces in this neighborhood, as there are many thefts recently.

(他們告訴我們要留意社區的新面孔，因為最近有許多竊案發生。)
